The ecological approach of the Nataraja Psychedelic Gathering is focused on several principles to limit the environmental impact of our event. This includes the reduction of : greenhouse gas, the consumption and release of pollutants - and the experiment of new low-carbon practices to meet the basic needs.
Our principles :
• The best piece of trash is the one that never existed in the first place. •
With a view to reaching a zero-waste policy, we avoid buying products with excessive packaging and we put a strict limit on the use of single-use components. We foster second-hand shops regarding our purchases, or we buy and make sustainable, reusable and repairable equipment as well as using recycled materials for our installations.
• Having a low carbon footprint means transporting on short distances •
Every year, we opt for a responsible procurement strategy with local producers (100km maximum) and our suppliers are chosen because of their commitment to ecological production and distribution.
We don’t make use of subcontracting for our operations.
• The energy is renewable only if it is not produced by industrial machines •
Eco-friendly behaviors have become part of our habits for years and low-tech always remains our first option. Whenever possible, we choose solutions that don’t require electricity such as dry-toilets, cold dishes or food that can be stored without a fridge. We also reduce our consumption of energy by using eco-dishwashers, Norwegian cooking pots, pan lids and we explore alternative sources of energy to replace electricity such as gas, the mechanical energy or the solar energy without solar cells.
• Leaving no trace but the participants’ smile •
In order to reduce our waste, we have compost bins at the campsite and in the kitchens of the volunteer canteen and food trucks.
Through our communication on social networks, we invite the participants to remain responsible by preferring carpooling, avoiding plastic waste, bringing their own container to drink...
We also set up entertainments and signs related to eco-friendly behaviours, the respect of the site and its biodiversity. We work in partnership with associations to offer activities and ecological actions during the festival.
